If you are not already a member, we invite you to consider a new membership with the CPC today. Please help us in our endeavor to protect our region's remaining natural places and the natural resources they support.
As the only local land trust in a 7-county region with a mission to protect land through easements and acquisitions, it is vital that we continue our 30+ year record of accomplishments.
The CPC serves local landowners interested in land protection, leverages state and private conservation funding to our region, and stewards thousands of acres of already protected land. With only a few part-time paid staff, we rely on our members and volunteers to accomplish much of our mission. Your membership contribution today will support important work this year:
- Our Land Protection Committee is fully engaged, with several valuable new members. We have four new conservation easements in process, with more in the works. CPC currently monitors almost 3,000 acres of land in Central PA under a conservation easement.
- At the Ironmaster's Mansion, the CPC will hold its 3rd residential conservation leadership camp for middle and high school youth, the Goddard Leadership Legacy Institute. We also run weekly history tours during the season, host scout, school, and church groups, special events, and fundraisers such as the annual Ironmaster's Challenge Trail Running and Hiking Event.
- The Kittatinny Ridge of Blue Mountain is one of our priority protection areas, with its forested ridgeline for migratory bird species, scenic beauty, public access, and groundwater resources to protect. Through several new easement projects and landowner outreach, our goal is to connect the Tuscarora State Forest with the Reineman Sanctuary and State Game Lands through conservation easements with neighboring landowners. We've also targeted properties in the South Mountain, and riparian buffers along coldwater limestone streams such as the Letort Spring Run, which provide exceptional habitat, improved water quality, and support natural diversity.
The biggest benefit of your membership is the knowledge that you are directly protecting woods, water, wildlife and farmland in Central PA. Other membership benefits include the CPC E-news, mailing list inclusion for sponsored events, an invitation to the annual fall fundraiser event at the Ironmaster's Mansion, membership appreciation events, and opportunities to volunteer and monitor conservation easement properties.
